We follow IDEAS principles in our work towards liberation.

inclusion tennessee places utmost importance on IDEAS (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Social Justice) principles. Our work in supporting the queer community necessitates confronting the inherent injustice, inequity, and violence that disproportionately impact people of color, transgender and gender-expansive individuals, individuals with disabilities, women, and immigrants. Merely being passive non-racists or non-sexists is inadequate. We are committed to fostering a community that is openly and actively anti-racist and feminist.

Justice, equity, accessibility, the celebration of diversity, and the prioritization of the marginalized are fundamental to the purpose, business model, and operations of inclusion tennessee.

The journey towards change is ongoing and non-linear. We anticipate and welcome its evolution and transformations. While the quest for change is immensely valuable and deserves lifelong dedication, we acknowledge the challenges that come with pursuits for 'diversity, equity, and inclusion.'

inclusion tennessee is dedicated to promoting access that is grounded in collective liberation and respects heritage in all its forms. We invite all those involved in our work whether as collaborators, students, community members, etc., to join us in a lifelong learning journey that embraces growth, change, critique, imperfection, and nuance.

“If you have come to help me you are wasting your time. But if you recognize that your liberation and mine are bound up together, we can walk together.”
— Lilla Watson

HOW WE APPROACH IDEAS PRINCIPLES

SOCIAL JUSTICE.

inclusion tennessee is steadfast in its commitment to dismantle barriers and guarantee equal access to resources and opportunities for everyone, particularly within the LGBTQIA+ community. Our objective is to eliminate systemic obstacles that impede individuals from realizing their fullest potential. Removing these barriers is not just about promoting fairness, but also instilling hope and optimism within our community. Through our dedicated efforts, we aim to achieve equitable outcomes that uplift all members of our multi-faceted LGBTQIA+ community.

EQUITY & ACCESSIBILITY.

inclusion tennessee is committed to fostering an environment where race, demographic traits, or personal histories do not determine life outcomes. Part of this commitment involves ensuring accessibility in every program we develop and every partnership we form. We believe that every individual, regardless of their physical abilities or limitations, deserves equal access to our services. This dedication to accessibility is central to our mission, as it allows us to create a safe and equitable environment for our team, our partners, and those we serve.

DIVERSITY.

inclusion tennessee recognizes and values the broad spectrum of individuals, life paths, and viewpoints that constitute diversity. This diversity is reflected in various elements, including age, race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical or mental ability, neurocognition, and personal experiences.

At inclusion tennessee, we don't just acknowledge diversity, we embrace it wholeheartedly, and hope for a day when diversity is more than just tolerance, but full inclusion. This practice not only enriches our organization but also enables us to be more attuned and responsive to the diverse communities we serve.

INCLUSION.

Our principles are deeply rooted in fostering an environment of inclusivity. We believe in amplifying the voices of those who are often unheard, working diligently to eliminate biases, and striving to accelerate shifts in culture. This commitment extends to all individuals, regardless of their abilities, backgrounds, or personal experiences.

Our goal is to help shape a society that is more equitable where everyone is given the opportunity to thrive and contribute to their fullest potential. We understand that in order to achieve this, we need to ensure that the unique and vibrant perspectives and experiences of individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community are recognized and valued.

We strive to create spaces where individuals feel seen, heard, and understood. Spaces where they can express themselves freely and authentically without fear of prejudice or discrimination. We know that promoting inclusivity requires more than just acceptance or tolerance. It involves actively challenging the systemic biases and prejudices that exist within our society. It involves creating opportunities for individuals within the LGBTQIA+ community to engage, participate, and lead.

In essence, our commitment to inclusivity goes beyond merely recognizing diversity. It is about embracing, celebrating, and honoring all that our community offers.
